This striking vintage studio pottery bowl features a wide, rounded form with a subtly tapered foot and a beautifully organic glaze effect around the rim. Hand-thrown and finished in a tactile, earthy stoneware body, the bowl is distinguished by its glossy blue-green and charcoal drip glaze, which cascades from the rim down the shoulder in expressive, painterly runs. The remainder of the surface has a natural, speckled beige tone with a soft matte finish, adding warmth and contrast.
Signed BPG on the base, this piece is a fine example of British studio pottery, likely dating from the 1970s–1980s when the studio ceramics movement was flourishing across the UK. The initials may refer to an individual ceramicist or a small pottery studio; while the exact maker is unidentified, the craftsmanship reflects the values of the period—individual expression, texture, and glaze experimentation.
Please note: there is a minor flaw in the glaze on one side of the bowl (as shown in photos), which appears to have occurred during firing. It does not detract from the overall beauty or function of the piece but is mentioned for accuracy.
A wonderful decorative object or functional bowl for a rustic or bohemian interior.
Dimensions: Approx. 5.75" diameter x 4" high
Condition: Good vintage condition with minor glaze flaw. No chips or cracks.
Provenance: UK studio pottery, signed BPG on base. Found in York, England. Circa 1970s–1980s.
