This striking pair of vintage brass candlesticks features an ornate neoclassical design, with each stem formed as a draped female figure in classical attire, carrying a basket atop her head that supports the candleholder. The bases and holders are richly adorned with fluted and gadrooned detailing, lending a grand, architectural elegance to the pieces.
The craftsmanship reflects late 19th to early 20th-century European revival styles inspired by ancient Greco-Roman forms, particularly popular in the late Victorian and Edwardian eras. While unmarked, the style and quality suggest they may have been produced in France or Italy, where such figural candlesticks were highly fashionable in decorative arts.
Perfect for adding an antique touch to a formal dining table, mantel, or sideboard, these candlesticks offer both decorative flair and historical charm. Their substantial weight and patina add to their authenticity and presence.
Sold as a pair.
Please note, these brass candlesticks are being sold with their patina intact so that the buyer has the choice of polishing it away, or not.
Dimensions: Approx. 9 inches tall
Condition: Good vintage condition with some patina consistent with age.
Provenance: Acquired from a private estate collection in North Yorkshire, UK.
These make an exceptional gift or collectible for lovers of classical decor and vintage metalwork.
